Drinking (in fact when his flask his empty he will leave what he is doing to get it refilled), working (he tends to become completely obsessed with a new project), being complimented/looked up to, seeing his inventions/concoctions work, talking with Fran (see his love of drinking), organization (it’s too bad he’s not good at it!), being lazy (when he’s not in a project he is TERRIBLY lazy), the sounds of gears/clocks/motors (very meditational to him, like classical music), classical music (he often plays it while working or relaxing), the crazy manner in which Detridon's brain works, being free of the shackles on his inventions
Dislikes
People with poor manners, being shouted at, being rushed, noisy people, children (god he hates the curious little buggers), being sober (he can’t see Fran that way), dead silence (it’s too loud, if you ask him), dancing (he has two left feet), when people don’t have faith in him (though it does make him ten times as passionate to prove them wrong), being called crazy (even if it’s true it’s simply not polite to generalize like that), having to suffer a person doing something wrong when he knows the right way to do it, incompetence, caring about someone as much as he did Fran (he feels disloyal somehow)
Personality
Chester is a moody man who sees much of the world around him and tells you little of what he discovers. He is a genius but as a result often erratic and reclusive, preferring things around him either be quiet, useful or (in the best case scenario) both. He has no moral qualms about using others as guinea pigs (provided he knows his experiment has no fatal consequences of course, he’s no monster) and enjoys the occasional prank when having a “good day”. He always acts the proper business man but his own chaotic and sarcastic nature often hampers that ever making him a socially capable person. When that isn’t killing his social charms his ardent desire to be drunk at any given hour of the day puts to bed the rest. He is very prone to starting a sentence and not finishing, taking off the moment am idea hits him and doing things right for people when he sees them doing it wrong (typically without asking).
Fears
Loving anyone again, losing his sight or his hands, the notion of ever trying to bring back Fran as some kind of monster, facing a world without Fran in it (even a delusion of her is better than nothing)
Quirks
Chester believes he can see and hear the ghost of his late wife Fran, but only while drunk. As a result he spends most of his time at least mildly sloshed. Patience was not a skill Chester was EVER introduced to.

History

Year 1810 - Year 1828: Chester was born in the heart of Sheedan but he never really fit in there. His family came from several generations of doctors among the highest class and he didn’t care for the practice. From a young age he was fascinated by how things worked, but the issue was he didn’t much care for how PEOPLE worked, just engineering and technology. In fact he rarely cared about dealing with people at all. They were complex, over emotional and impossible to predict from one moment to the next. Any one little thing could set them off and he didn’t care for the several uncontrollable variables that came with humanity. No, he preferred cold hard machinery which dealt in facts and figures.

Naturally his family was not pleased and worked hard to force the square of their son through the round hole of the family business. They only found one place he could meet him in the middle: Alchemy. He enjoyed making scientific potions, some of which helped people and some of which… well they had no practical use but he made them anyways.

Year 1829: When he was 18 he went to the Legacy Institute. He withdrew almost completely from his family at that point. He went to an elite school, but instead of focusing on medicine (as he was supposed to) he took enough classes in the field to shut up anyone watching and the rest were all for mechanical sciences. He never looked back and he never wrote home.

Year 1830: It was only a year later when he met Fran. She was a willful, passionate and very polite but what interested him at first in her was that her nose was always in a book. Few shared his complete obsession with study and finding another like him was interesting, to put it mildly. Like a teenage boy with a crush he approached her with his version of caution: Which is to say he plotted every ounce of their “accidental” meeting out. He studied her to learn what topics she preferred, he mentioned to some of her friends a good book within that same brand of research and then when she borrowed it (it being a book he specifically chose as the library had only one copy) he pretended to want to read it as well. His innocent little trap worked and while it took them almost the whole of the year to become romantic he loved every moment of it.

Year 1832: At 22 his mother passed away. He only heard about it because the local papers lamented the loss of such a skilled doctor in the heart of their home. It affected him more then he thought it ever could and he turned to drinking. Fran put a stop to that VERY quickly, however. She banned him from such things and lectured him severely whenever he seemed prone to sneaking around her. She simply would not let him wallow. Furious with her for interrupting his one big emotional tantrum, the two had their first shouting match which ended in him proposing to her. He wasn’t sure how he got from point A to point B, still isn’t if you ask him.

Year 1833: Sadly the two were only married a year before her death. He had paid little attention to local rumors and thus missed the spreading word of a man murdering lovely women on the streets. When the inspectors came to his door with news of her demise he couldn’t reconcile it. He demanded to see her body and found himself still unable to make it real.

Immediately he began to try and puzzle it out. He allowed himself no time for grieving and instead turned her death into his latest fascination. He spent his hours divided between researching the moves of this killer and training himself in fire arms enough to take the bastard down when he found him. 

Year 1853: Chester takes an interest in a supposedly haunted letter opener. However, his tests take a back seat when his brother picks it up and ends up cursed with a week to live.

Chester and William need a mage to stop the curse and thus ask Kyshtari to help them. She admits it’s not her expertise but she can tell a powerful dark spirit is attached to the blade. She suggests that this is less a matter for mages and more a matter of religious cleansing for a spirit needing to be put to rest.

They take the blade to the church and Trisha helps them purge the spirit. They learn a young mage was murdered by his noble lover during the civil war to conceal the fact he was a mage since she was pregnant.

Year 1854: Arcadian talks to Chester about how to create an energy barrier that can cover all of Shade’s Run. While it can be done, it takes technology that Detridon made and supplies from the Dark World. Within a month, Detridon is brought to join Chester and Arcadian on the project. They build energy spires around the city that will create a defensive wall for Shade’s Run.

When the grid is successfull and repelling the Slada'sha invasion on Shade's Run, everyone throws a massive party to celebrate. During the party, Detridon, Arcadian, Chester and Charles opt to pool their resources and create a group to study arcane energy, technology and innovations with them together – they call it the Consortium. Leorajh volunteers him as the leader of said group!

A ffew days later, Percy notices Chester working on documents for the newly made Consortium. When Chester offers him to join, Percy happily agrees and also asks to have Patrick on as his “assistant”. Chester refuses the assistant role but says Patrick can be his errand boy – assistants must invent!

YEar 1855: With the threat of the Slada’sha rising, the powers that rule the nations/factions come together (Chestin, JJ, Scathe, Chester, Xiphil, Muramasa, Kaidan, Oseron, Kallista, Leorajh) to discuss how they should handle it. They agree to assemble teams to investigate various issues. One team will look into the catacombs under Cardinal Meridian for more clues, since a Slada’sha had slumbered there. Another will investigate the strange calling from the ocean and where exactly it is. A third will look into Sardor Isle and see just how asleep the Slada’sha there is now. The last will look into the ruins of Aether’s ancient capitol in what is now Nazca and see if there are any artifacts that may have been stored for use against these creatures.

A few months later sees the forging of the Dawnbringers Pact. Oseron takes the information and holds a meeting with JJ, Chestin, Scathe, Chester, Xiphil, Muramasa, Kaidan & Leorajh. They realize that the other Slada’sha are stirring because of the big one waking up, someone the emanations are waking others. Mouko invites himself into the meeting, declaring that previously waking them required his power so he isn’t sure how this is happening. Realizing this is a world threatening issue, they create a group that will be considered unallied to any one nation but which will defend all nations from the threat of the Slada’sha. Every major power will have a representative within this neutral party. The representatives are: Oseron (as the Leader), Leorajh (as the Field Commander), Scathe (Shadow Hunters), Chester (Consortium), Virgil (Knights of the Crown), Astera (Temple), Mouko (Entropy), Xiphil (Nazca), August (Wysteria), Syria (Dark World) and Kallista (Phaira). Due to Mouko’s inclusion, Muramasa pulls all ryuko support from this group and leaves the meeting – returning home. The group is called Dawnbringer and all present sign a pact to support its operations.

As the Dawnbringer Fortress comes online, parts at the industrial complex are missing or broken. Chester discusses potential sabotage concerns with Arcadian. Eventually, Shantrea, Virgil and Chester bring their issues up to Oseron and Leorajh. Shadow Hunters are sent to investigate the threat. However, the investigation is hard to prioritize when the water levels are starting to rise – which is the first sign the Ocean Slada’sha is awakening. They have to mobilize all forces to get people out of the Isle of Dragons and the beaches of Merlose before they are destroyed.

Despite their best efforts, Mouko becomes a living shield to hold back the Slada'sha and the Isle of Dragons is destroyed. The Dawnbringers devote all of their rescources to bringing the monster down.

Leorajh, and his team, bring back the crystals and give them to the Consortium (Chester and Detridon specifically). Thus, Chester and Detridon uncover how the crystals work. They learn that the Slada’sha were sealed in locations of great power – those locations can be utilized in many ways, since it is a “free” energy source. They need to take sample readings to get an idea of what kind of energy frequency the nodes are. They also realize the nodes correlate to the largest Dragon Lines.

As a result, Leorajh, Vindassi and Chester go to the Cardinal Meridian Slada’sha temple and attempt to get energy readings. They have to protect Chester as he gets the readings he needs, since the location comes under attack.

Year 1856: Ann confronts Chester on her likeness to his late wife (which she learned about from William). The two get into an argument when Ann asks if she is a replacement for his dead beloved. He snaps, lashes out and as a result Ann leaves. Chester attempts to stop her, since he feels the outside world isn’t ready for her, but she overpowers him easily.

A little over a month later, Chester and Detridon, having been studying all the readings, learn that what they found doesn’t match what the crystals say should be there. The flow should be out, not inwards. This eludes to another problem, one connected to the strange device Arcadian’s team encountered. They need more intel however, so another – more prepared – team is sent to thoroughly investigate.

Eventually, Chester and Percy learn that they can use the energy from the gate to power synchronized energy cannons. The cannons would produce a huge amount of power, enough to harm the gigantic Ocean Slada’sha. The issue is something isn’t letting them use the nodes they found.

Just before the years end, after learning what they can about Torus and “Fate”, the Consortium members find a way to implode the Time Steam Gates. The devices must be planted at the various gate locations and will close the portals and release the energy back into its proper balance. There are 9 gates in total and thus 5 teams are sent. His team arrives at their Time Steam Gate and must deal with enemies coming out of it while they reach it to destroy it. Karlee is killed protecting Chester while he sets off the device.

Year 1857: Detridon and Chester come up with floating platforms that can carry the cannons and ferry armies over the ocean. The idea is that the platforms can absorb the power of the Slada’sha and form a ring around it to create 100% synchronization – then blast it from every angle at once to obliterate it.

A couple of months later, Percy talks with Chester about his new crush, since the man was married once. However, the advice he gets is hardly useful given the man is an angry drunk these days.

In Capricorn, the Consortium set up a camp to activate the cannons at an agreed upon time with Chester operating as a communications hub for it. Oseron stays behind at the fortress as well, with the Isle of Entropy acting as the vessel to carry Leorajh to the battle. With everything ready, Mouko releases the barrier as his island arrives on the site. Nu and Emiho get Mouko and bring him to safety. Meanwhile, the others take Leorajh into the battle.

The Ocean Slada’sha is Defeated: The signal is given, the cannons are activated and the fight against the Slada’sha takes place. Leorajh alone keeps its focus until the weapons can be unleashed at full power but in the end they are victorious in putting the monster down for good!

A massive celebration is held at the Dawnbringer Fortress unknown to those celebrating, however, “Fate” makes its fury known and opens multiple gates through time into the ancient past – unleashing 5 ancient True Dragons onto the world. As they enter a time period in which they are dead, their psyche melds with that of their deranged dead counter parts and drives them into a maddened state.
